Kadapa: Three persons have been arrested for kidnapping a B. Tech student and attempting to murder him near Kadapa Airport on Monday, August 10, after the student realised their role in the kidnap of a minor girl for alleged “black magic.”
Kadapa DSP E. Balaswamy Reddy said on Thursday that the three accused, riding a Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, had sought temporary shelter from B. Tech student Pranav Kumar’s mother in Kadapa on Monday. After being permitted, the accused had been discussing among themselves about black magic and kidnapping a minor girl from Shettur mandal in Anantapur district who, however, managed to escape.
On overhearing this, Pranav Kumar came out and admonished them. The accused overpowered the student, dragged him into their car, and drove to a secluded area near Kadapa Airport. The kidnappers then allegedly tried to slit his throat with a knife. On hearing Pranav Kumar’s cries, some locals rushed to the spot.
The accused fled in their car leaving Pranav behind, the DSP said.
The case took a turn when police realised that a minor girl had indeed been kidnapped from Shettur mandal in Anantapur district and brought to Vallur on Sunday, August 9. The girl escaped and soon Vallur police found her. They registered a Zero FIR and transferred the case to the jurisdictional police station in Anantapur district, which registered a POCSO case in connection with the incident.
DSP Balaswamy Reddy said Vallur police worked swiftly to trace and arrest the accused, who have been identified as Kanipakam Vijay Kumar, Bala Hemanath, and Balasubrahmanyam. Police seized the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz allegedly used in the crime and a knife from their possession. Investigations are underway into the circumstances surrounding the minor girl’s kidnap from Shettur mandal in Anantapur district.
Kadapa district SP Nachiketh Vishwanath appreciated Vallur sub-inspector R. Siva Nagireddy and his team for cracking the case.
