Udhagamandalam: Three people, including a woman, sustained severe injuries when massive boulders crushed their car near Burliyar in Nilgiris district on Wednesday morning following heavy rains, police said. The landslide struck when the vehicle was proceeding from Ooty toward Coimbatore.
Heavy rains lashed several parts of the region overnight, including Udhagamandalam (Ooty), Coonoor, and Burliyar.
Locals rushed to the spot immediately, rescued the injured from the debris, and sent them to the Mettupalayam Government Headquarter Hospital for emergency medical treatment.
Authorities have initiated clearing operations along the stretch.
