Mancherial: Three farmers were killed and eight others injured, two of them critically, in separate incidents after strong winds and unseasonal rains triggered structural collapses at procurement centres in Mancherial district on Tuesday night.
In the first incident at Luxettipet, farmers had gathered at the Kothur procurement centre to safeguard their crops from sudden rain. While taking shelter beside a wall, it collapsed due to powerful gusts of wind. Nilki Lachanna (55) and Gundarapu Venkatesh (24), residents of Mutyampet in Dandepalli mandal, died on the spot. Five others were injured and shifted to a local government hospital. Among them, Tanugula Nagaraju and Seedula Harish were later referred to Karimnagar as their condition turned critical.
In another incident at Gampalapalli procurement centre, a tin shed gave way under the impact of strong winds, killing Tanugula Abhiram (22). Two others sustained injuries and were shifted to Karimnagar for treatment.
Meanwhile, gusty winds and rain uprooted trees at several places across the district, disrupting power supply and blocking key roads. Police, with the help of locals, are clearing fallen trees to restore normal movement.
Authorities have warned that similar weather conditions may persist for the next three days and advised people to remain alert and avoid unsafe shelters during storms.
