Gorringe a Pie for the night
Social media star Dan Gorringe has gone full Collingwood nuffy areas tonight.
The former Carlton and Gold Coast ruckman is a Blues fan, but he lost a bet with his friend and Magpies superstar Nick Daicos, who emerged triumphant when the two archrivals played a fortnight ago.
To honour the bet, Gorringe has to sit in the Magpies cheer squad – and tonight is the night.
Who will win and why?
I’ve gone with the Cats tonight, but I’m far from confident.
As any listeners to our tipping pod will be aware, this is very much a 50-50 game, or what we call in the tipping business as a swing game.
Both sides have star players unavailable, but Brayden Maynard’s absence swayed me to the Cats. He’s extremely important, both spiritually and tactically, to the Pies.
Jeremy Cameron plays well against the Pies, so his absence will be keenly felt, though he had struggled before his shoulder injury. Max Holmes’ absence places a lot of pressure on Bailey Smith, who provides the run from stoppage for the Cats. I’m expecting the Pies to send Ed Allan to him.
No late changes for either side
We’ve got about half an hour until the first siren.
Both clubs will go in as selected last night.
In case you missed it, the Pies made one change to the side that was so impressive last week in Adelaide. Forward Lachie Schultz comes in after overcoming his ankle issue to replace injured defender Brayden Maynard, who will be a huge loss for the Pies. Jordan De Goey was under a cloud a few days ago due to illness, but he will take his place in the 23.
The Cats have recalled Jack Martin to take Patrick Dangerfield’s spot in the forward line. The Cats say Dangerfield could have played if needed but have taken the safer option off a six-day break.

This is as big as it gets for a game in July. Both clubs are locks for the top 10 but it’s difficult to see the loser tonight make the six. You’d have to get very creative with your ladder predictors to get them in.
And if you’re starting the finals from the wildcard slots, it’s a long way to the flag.
