After being eliminated from postseason contention, two Tigers starters head to the IL with just six games left in the season.
In order to make room for Jace Jung and River Ryan on the roster, the Tigers announced that Troy Melton and Colt Keith will be placed on the IL, meaning their seasons are done.

Melton was placed on the 15-day IL with right arm fatigue. The injury took place during Sunday’s game against the White Sox, as Melton left the game following a mound visit. He left in the bottom of the fourth inning after throwing 87 pitches in 3.2 innings, taking the loss in that game by allowing four runs.
Melton’s second season in the majors ends with an 8-5 record along with a 2.76 ERA and 94 strikeouts in 20 starts, though he went 2-4 in nine starts across the past two months and had allowed 17 runs in 17 innings pitched in September.

As for Keith, he was placed on the 10-day IL with a left thumb sprain. He had been dealing with the injury over the last couple of weeks and didn’t play in Sunday’s series finale against the White Sox.
Keith’s third season is done after playing 140 games, splitting time between first base, third base, and designated hitter. He batted .258/.322/.406 with 10 home runs in 99 hits. One of his biggest improvements was in strikeouts, as he went from 110 in 2024 to just 84 in 2026.
