Selections based on a soft track

Race 1

1. Pin Up Sheila pounced on the lead on debut and held off a subsequent winner when scoring on debut at Canterbury a month ago. Freshened up with a trial where she sat wide and brushed home. Chance to back it up. 5. Bonvoy has had a number of trials and won the latest of them a couple of weeks ago in pretty handy fashion. Bears close watching. 3. Scuro Star sat behind a strong tempo at Hawkesbury and finished well, beating a recent winner on debut. Some chance this pans out similarly.
How to play it: Pin Up Sheila to win.

7. Omolong looked the part winning his latest trial last week at Rosehill. He’s a well-bred colt, an $850,000 yearling, a half-brother to a dual Group winner in Prost. Should be very competitive if he brings that trial effort to race day. 10. Spain was a $750,000 buy and looks to have some ability based on his recent trials. Sat wide and near the tail before working home strongly at Newcastle in the latest. 4. I’m Relevant found the line well in a small field at Hawkesbury before close up in a blanket finish in his latest trial at Randwick. Any support would be a good pointer to his chances.
How to play it: Omolong to win.

Race 3

1. Crossways looks to have the speed to offset a wide gate on debut and it’ll be interesting to see if the pace he showed in his runaway Canterbury trial win can be harnessed. If it can then he should take plenty of beating. 4. Kalim is showing some ability in his trials winning the latest in good fashion at Randwick two weeks ago. One to keep an eye on at each-way odds. 15. Zoufame hasn’t raced since an eye-catching second in the Magic Millions Maiden in January. Won two recent trials, draws okay and sure to be around the mark.
How to play it: Crossways to win.

Race 4

8. Lennox was right in the market first-up at Canterbury two weeks ago and didn’t get much of a crack at them in the run home. Second-up record is handy, yet to miss a place, and given the market expectation fresh he’s worth a look each-way. 1. Hot Bandit is working up to a win this preparation, was back 100m when weaving his way through from last into third at Warwick Farm three weeks ago. 5. Existential Bob generally takes a couple of runs to hit his straps but managed to get very close when resuming at Kensington at 1400m. Whether it’s too short now remains to be seen but expect him to run well.
How to play it: Lennox each-way.

Race 5

2. Deep Pleasure is overdue for a change of fortune after going to the line hard held behind a wall at Kensington last time. Only beat one home but should have been in the finish. No harder here and with luck should go close. 7. Sister Daae comes through the same race and she was afforded a clear run down the outside as she ran into second. Back 100m but drawn to settle a bit closer and has a claim in her favour too. 5. Ernaux will likely appreciate firmer footing and coming back a notch in class after failing at Rosehill a few weeks ago. Overall form is mixed.
How to play it: Deep Pleasure to win.

Race 6

10. Sociable has found one better in two runs back and looks ready to rise in trip after darting through when narrowly beaten at 1100m three weeks ago. Drops 3.5kg and lands in a race that looks to have good speed, she should be running on strongly again. 4. High Blue Sea will need a bit of luck from a tricky draw but with the speed engaged could slot in somewhere. He’s put two good runs together and is back in class after a close third at Randwick. 13. Airworthy tried to lead all the way, kicking clear around the turn before being reeled in at Canterbury second-up. Sure to be in this.
How to play it: Sociable each-way.

6. Astronomix showed plenty of ability in his first preparation and probably holds the key to this race. He was a late scratching at the gates a few weeks back and has since trialled, has the claim and a draw that he can work with. 2. Clear Proof was a different horse when ridden on pace at the end of last preparation with a win and two placings. Clicked up to win his latest trial and no surprise if he gives some cheek. 18. Against The Law has been close up of late with a placing in this grade three runs back and a solid fourth behind Ice Kool in his latest. Needs things to go his way.
How to play it: Astronomix to win.

Best Bets: Race 2 (7) Omolong; Race 7 (6) Astronomix.
Best Value: Race 4 (8) Lennox.
