Stronghold is another metro visitor that can improve into his second start after an even effort on debut at the provincials. 8. Savvy Diamond is a filly by Savabeel and a big market watch on debut for the Waterhouse-Bott stable. Progressed to win her second trial and drawn to get a soft run. 10. Visna, a filly by Rebel Dane in the Gary Portelli yard, also makes her debut off a recent trial win on the synthetic, while 7. Legaselli resumes for a second prep, with blinkers coming off and behind two progressive trials.

Race 2

1. Orange Tsunami hits peak fitness fourth-up from a handy draw in a very moderate race. Drops back from provincial level and was scratched from the opener at Wyong on Sunday to be saved for this. Watch the betting on 2. Gentle Giant, a four-year-old by Maurice in the Waterhouse-Bott yard, which debuts with blinkers on behind two improving trials. 4. Who I Think I Am is another improver that missed narrowly here last start when reloading off a month-long freshen. 3. Milchel did his best work late first-up at Gosford over a mile, and relishing the bigger circuit can run into the money at good odds.

Race 3

3. Peace Bird is a tough and consistent mare well placed to go back-to-back at the course. Was game in beating all but the winner in successive runs at the provincials before coming off a let-up to lead all the way here and get a maiden win behind her. Beat a very handy galloper that day which then won at Scone next start, and she’s right up to taking the next step. 1. Kendalia produced his best run in a while here 17 days ago when zooming home just behind the placegetters. Trained on the track, with blinkers going on, and back up to this distance is an overdue plus. 2. London Boy is an honest home tracker that hasn’t missed a place in his last five, while stablemate 7. Glenn’s Legacy is over the odds dropping back from a much steeper BM 72 metro race.

Race 4

10. River Mersey is a filly by understated sire Profiteer in the local Matthew Dale camp that can strike on debut in a very ordinary maiden. Given plenty of time winning a trial 24 days ago and has reportedly been working well. Gets in light after the jockey’s claim in a suitable set-weights race. Stablemate 1. Brucey will likely jump favourite returning for his third start. No public trials, but key gear changes in play, although has to work over from the outside gate. 2. Chillero returns off a 35-week spell and average debut effort from a low draw behind two improving trials. Gap to the rest headed by 9. Boujee Gold first-up since autumn with blinkers on.

Race 5

5. The Eyes Have It is well placed to win again here fourth-up for Canberra’s trainer of the year Luke Pepper. Fought hard to win a BM 58 17 days ago, has enough tactical speed to off-set a wider draw, and leading jockey sticks like glue. Building a nice record at the track and the drier the surface the better she is. 3. Dancer’s Delight is a progressive four-year-old that hit the line late in a better Class 3 here second-up after beating home the top selection the start before. Will again drift back from a wide draw, but would prefer the going softer. 1. Midnight Moose dug in hard to lead all the way second-up on the synthetic at Canberra. The handicapper hasn’t missed him up to 62kg rising to a Class 3, although it’s a weak line-up for this level. 2. Stormbringer swept home to win a BM 66 here two starts ago before doing nothing in a deeper provincial grade. Is a different galloper at home, although also has to carry a big weight. 9. I Am Brave is drawn to get an economical run dropping back from provincial level fourth-up and can run into the money.

Race 6

9. Midnight Affair is tough Canberra mare shooting for back-to-back wins over the same trip and grade. Charged home late to miss narrowly at Wagga before going one better at that course a fortnight ago. Up 2kg, but hard fit, loves the courses with long runs home, and this isn’t strong. 7. Roonami dug in hard to win a weak country BM 58 when resuming and normally holds that form into her next run. 3. Astrogazer is well over the odds second-up from a handy on-speed draw and coming back from a tougher provincial race. 1. Sir Tua is a big watch second-up since late summer. 5. Lucky Star, deep into his prep, goes in all trifecta and first fours.

Race 7

6. Flywire is a lightly raced and versatile Canberra three-year-old emerging as the one to beat, second-up as a gelding, and in a thin race for this grade. Powered home to win fresh on the synthetic at home and importantly drawn to get cover off the speed before being taken to the outside. Bred to get further. 5. Superior Style bounced to the front and kept going here on debut when well in the market. Is up to repeating the dose over the same trip and draw. 2. The Main Event can improve sharply second-up back on firmer ground and coming off a fair effort in tougher Class 2 Highway company. Big watch on 3. Bosco, which resumes behind a nice trial win on the synthetic. Big weight offset by a 4kg claimer booking but has to overcome the outside draw. 8. Vainstream is another Canberra raider over the odds deep into his prep, while 7. Showtime Maggie, back on drier ground third-up, can add plenty of value into wider exotics.
