Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay on Saturday congratulated Grandmaster R Praggnanandhaa on winning the Norway Chess title. “My heartfelt congratulations to Grandmaster Praggnanandhaa on achieving the historic feat of becoming the first Indian to win the Norway Chess 2026 tournament held in Oslo”, he said in a statement.
Stating that he set a remarkable record by defeating the reigning champion, Magnus Carlsen, twice in the same tournament and securing four consecutive victories, Vijay said: “I extend my best wishes to Grandmaster Praggnanandhaa, who has brought pride to both Tamil Nadu and India, as he goes on to achieve further milestones”.
