The glamour of Tollywood often hides the physical risks actors face while performing demanding action and dance sequences. A series of recent injuries involving some of the industry’s biggest stars has once again highlighted the toll that filmmaking can take on actors’ bodies, while also disrupting production schedules and escalating budgets.

Actress Rashmika Mandanna has reportedly suffered a serious injury while filming an intense dance sequence for her upcoming films Ranabaali and Mysaa. According to sources, the physically demanding action and dance sequences resulted in a complete tendon detachment in her hip.

Doctors are said to have been surprised by the severity of the injury, noting that such tendon damage is usually seen only in athletes who undergo rigorous physical training. “Medical experts have advised Rashmika to take complete rest for six weeks and undergo a structured rehabilitation program to ensure proper healing and regain strength,” says a source close to the actress.

Earlier, Jr NTR was advised to take complete rest for six to eight weeks after suffering a shoulder injury. The actor is currently recovering at his residence in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, where he is undergoing regular physiotherapy. Doctors have instructed him to stay away from work until he makes a full recovery.

The injury has forced director Prashanth Neel to temporarily halt the shooting of Dragon. The team has also cancelled its planned Sri Lanka schedule, where a romantic song featuring Jr NTR and Rukmini Vasanth was to be filmed.

“The injury has definitely disrupted the production plans and is expected to increase the film’s overall cost,” says a source. “The film was originally budgeted at around Rs 350 crore, but the delay could push the cost up by another 10 to 15 percent because of the break in shooting, rescheduling of artists and other production expenses,” the source adds.

Veteran actor Nandamuri Balakrishna also suffered an injury while shooting for his upcoming film NBK 111. He sustained a minor muscle tear during a high-voltage action sequence in Kakinada, prompting the makers to issue an official health update.

Following medical consultation, Balakrishna has been advised to undergo a minor surgical procedure to ensure a complete and speedy recovery. The treatment is expected to help him return to the sets without any long-term complications.

A few months ago, Ram Charan too suffered an injury while shooting for Peddi and later underwent surgery, triggering concern among his fans. “He is now out of the hospital and recovering well,” says director Hemanth Madhukar.

According to Hemanth Madhukar, injuries are an unavoidable part of an actor’s profession and often have a significant impact on film production.

“Injuries are part of every actor’s career, especially when they perform high-risk action scenes and demanding dance sequences. Shooting breaks inevitably increase production costs, but they are sometimes unavoidable,” he says.

He believes audiences often fail to appreciate the physical hardships actors endure behind the glamour. “Acting is not like a regular government job. Actors constantly push their bodies to the limit through intense action episodes and physically exhausting dance performances. It takes a tremendous toll on their health, and injuries become an occupational hazard,” Hemanth adds.

With multiple top stars sidelined by injuries in recent months, Tollywood is once again witnessing how a single accident on set can affect not just an actor’s health but also production timelines, release schedules and the financial planning of big-budget films.
