Top Newcastle trainer Kris Lees will attack Thursday’s Gosford meeting with key chances in three of the seven races.

Lees will start his day at the Central Coast track where he links with jockey Tyler Schiller who will board the resuming Herman Said to contest the Brisbane Waters Glass Cg&E Benchmark 64 Handicap (1100m).

Herman Said has a solid record, and Lees is confident the son of Exceedance can return from his break with a strong showing.

“He’s a talented horse that has shown his share of ability in his career so far,” Lees said.

“He’s won two from nine and has a few placings as well. He’s got good gate speed and is an on-pace runner that puts himself there and gives himself every chance.

“He’s had the two trials to be readied for his return to racing and is ready to go now. He’s drawn awkward in what is a small field but if he can get across and have things go his way then he should take plenty of beating.”

First starter No Limits, prepared by the Lees, will be partnered by Schiller when lining up in the Brown Commercial Building Provincial Maiden Handicap (1000m).

Also by Exceedance, No Limits has had three barrier trials in preparation for his debut.

“He’s had two recent trials and won the latest of them at Wyong by a good margin,” Lees said.

“He came right away on the soft track to score in that and being out of a Lonhro mare you’d like to think he’ll be just as adept if we get a heavy track on Thursday.

“It looks a nice race for him to start off in and I’m looking forward to seeing him in action.”

Lees rounds out his day at Gosford when Schiller rides Issy’s Star and Shannen Llewellyn steers Powerful Tune in the Coastal Air Conditioning F&M Benchmark 64 Handicap (1100m).

“Issy’s Star is resuming and has talent. She’s finished second in both first-up runs and has trialled well twice,” Lees said. “And Powerful Tune is lightly raced and can be in the finish without surprising.”
