Roxy Thomas, a Torquay United defender, has recently been diagnosed with brain cancer, and she has already undergone two surgeries within the last few weeks in preparation for her treatment, the club revealed.
The 18-year-old plays for Torquay United’s women’s team. All people associated with the club are wishing Thomas the best of luck at this extremely difficult time for the player and her family, according to the club’s statement published on its official website.

Thomas joined United last summer having previously played first-team football for Plymouth Argyle, where she was developed through the pathway program. She has become an important figure in the team managed by Ryan Perks and often plays in the role of an attacking left-back.
The player has been part of the side that remained unbeaten throughout the entire 2025/26 season, thus securing the South West Regional Women’s Football League Premier Division title and promotion to the FA Women’s National League. The club achieved the domestic treble by winning both the Devon Women’s Premier Cup and the League Cup, and Thomas was awarded Young Player of the Season, according to the Torbay Weekly.
“Roxy is a wonderful young person as well as an exceptionally talented footballer,” Ryan Perks told the club’s statement, adding that football is the last thing that must be taken into consideration at such a moment and that the priority of the squad is the wellbeing of Thomas.
Rob Hawes, the chairman of the women’s department, described Thomas as an extremely special young lady who made a good impression on everyone working at the club in a very short period of time. The club’s aim now is to support Thomas and her family in any possible way, according to Hawes, and they should know that they are not alone.

Thomas’s teammates and her family are now showing their support, and the club will support them in the coming weeks and months. Torquay United will also support the fundraising campaign, which has been organized using the platform JustGiving to cover the costs of Thomas’s treatment. More information about the ways to help will be provided soon, according to Weltch Media, the sponsor of the women’s team.
