Hyderabad: The Telangana Tourism Development Corporation has proposed the development of 12 boating units across multiple locations to boost eco-tourism and local recreation. The proposed projects cover lakes and reservoirs in several districts; some of them have been approved in the state Budget or under Central schemes. Among the key proposals are boating facilities at Inyadramma lake, Buchi Reddy Palem, Madhira; Wyra lake; Paleru lake and Parnashala at Bhadrachalam, all in Khammam; Borancha, Medak; and Gudi Cheruvu in Sircilla.
The others include Kokapet lake; Kondapochamma reservoir at Thurkapally, Siddipet; Dhoulatabad, Kodangal, Vikarabad, Nalla Cheruvu and Pragathinagar lake at Kukatpally; and the Shamirpet lake.
Presiding over a review meeting, the minister along with corporation chairman Patel Ramesh Reddy and officials to scrutinised the progress of projects funded by the state government, the Centre and under public-private partnerships. Officials provided a briefing on the projects to the minister for the works estimating to cost Rs 274.93 crore.
Krishna Rao suggested replacing traditional boats with modern one and introducing additional boating units at Somasila. He directed the department to explore the feasibility of constructing cantilever glass viewpoints at high-altitude locations and water bodies. He also called for the immediate preparation of proposals for the construction of additional cottages near the historic Ramappa Temple.
To support local talent and culture, the minister directed the construction of Hampi-style theaters at prominent tourist spots to host cultural performances, providing sustainable livelihoods for local artists.
