The Only Way Is Essex star Ella Rae Wise has opened up about filming with her ex boyfriend Dan Edgar as he moves on while she remains a “single pringle”
Sadly, we all experience heartbreak in our lives, but few of us have had to go through a messy break-up with the cameras rolling. For Ella Rae Wise, her split last year from fellow The Only Way Is Essex star Dan Edgar has featured heavily on the hit ITV show, and the fallout continues in series 37.
“Obviously I’ve had situationships on the show, where it’s only ever been talking terms with someone,” reflects the 25-year-old, who has her own fashion line.
“It’s been nothing more than a couple of messages and a date every now and then. Whereas with me and Dan… we were actually in a full-blown relationship.
“It has never been as intense as it was to have a proper ex-boyfriend on a TV show that you work on. It’s very hard, you literally can’t get away from each other.”

In the second episode of TOWIE’s 37th series, Ella and Dan had a conversation about their post-relationship friendship – and ultimately came to the conclusion that its flirty nature isn’t very “respectful” to his new girlfriend Chloe Lewis.
While Dan has moved on, Ella is still, in her own words, a “single pringle” – and she tells new that she wouldn’t have it any other way. “I’m quite happy and content,” she says. “It’s time for me to take time out for what I want, focus on myself and whatever comes along is a bonus. They say good things come to those who wait, so I’m waiting.”
But, if the opportunity to have a summer of love courtesy of a certain villa-based ITV dating show ever came along, Ella wouldn’t say no. “I would absolutely love to do Love Island!” she laughs. “I’m 25 now. I know I’m still young to be worried about love, but I’ve obviously not found my forever. So, I look at people that have gone on there and there’s some people that find their forever and they continue to have babies, get engaged and stay together.”
If she went on the show, Ella wouldn’t be the first cast member to do so, as TOWIE OG Joey Essex has previously been in the villa. He isn’t the only former TOWIE regular Ella would like to follow in the footsteps of, either. She would also love to do Strictly Come Dancing, just like her former fling Pete Wicks.
“I’d like to tick Strictly off my bucket list because my nan absolutely loves it. She’d die to see me there, so I’d love to dedicate it to her really. She loved seeing Pete on it.”
According to Ella, the only thing her granny said when Pete did his cha-cha to I’m Too Sexy in those now infamous pink PVC trousers was, “Oh God, doesn’t he look good?”
Sadly, Pete may not be aware of his superfan within Ella’s family. “There’s no bad blood, but I don’t speak to him,” Ella says. “If I was to see him out, obviously we’d say hello. We’re friends. I hope he’s all well and good. And from what I can see, he’s smashing it.”
Pete made headlines recently after getting close to his good friend and KISS radio co-host Olivia Attwood. Following her painful split from footballer Bradley Dack, Olivia and Pete were seen cosying up to each other, setting the rumour mill alight about the true nature of their relationship.
For Ella, it’s always strange to see what people say about those she knows from the showbiz world – and about herself. “There are a lot of words I could use to describe what it’s like when the public comments nasty things about you! It’s upsetting. It can make you angry because people don’t actually know you. They think they do, but they don’t.
“I have a whole different life separate from TOWIE,” she adds. “I have a very private life that I keep away from the public eye, with friends outside of the TV industry. I keep things to myself.”
Despite her keen determination to keep parts of her life private, Ella knows that people will still want to pry. It makes her feel anxious, she confesses, but she has also grown to accept that it’s all par for the course.
And Ella has some tried-and-tested methods for keeping her spirits up, which include hanging out with her family and indulging in another very important hobby.
“If I wake up one morning and I feel a little bit down in the dumps, I just take myself shopping!” she says, smiling. During her eight years of being on TOWIE Ella has, she adds, developed quite a thick skin, saying, “I think it’s something that I’m used to, which is quite sad, in a way.”
And she still loves every bit of her job on TV. “Obviously, we’d rather not deal with the hate and the trolling, but we can’t help what people choose to do,” she says. “I look back and I’ve done so much in the space of eight years in the industry. Everything has sort of fallen into place at the right time. And I’ve enjoyed every moment of it. I hope it continues!”
The Only Way Is Essex airs on ITV2 at 9pm on Sundays and Mondays
