Former Coronation Street star Tracy Shaw was emotional in a message to her followers as she prepares to turn 53 while undergoing treatment for breast cancer
Tracy Shaw was in tears as she gets ready to turn 53. The Coronation Street star was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this yea and has been keeping followers updated with her condition.
But in her latest message, the actress was clearly emotional as she revealed why she has been quiet lately. She said on Instagram: “I’ll try to explain why I’ve been quiet.
“Shingles have been quite painful and since I went out with Sally Ann for a few hours the other day, I’ve literally had to sleep a lot since. I’ve kind of paid for those few hours of joy, really and that’s just the reality of where I’m at.
“It’s hard to accept. There’s time when I’d think ‘Oh I’ll have this week,’ I can get things done But that’s not the case.”
She went on: “I’m managing to eat now which is great so I’m spending most of the time eating whenever I can. Some days I have taste and then some days I don’t, I get really excited about cooking food and then realise that those taste buds aren’t there. I’ve been having to spend a few days healing over just accepting the reality.”
The actress added that her chemo appears to be working, saying it is “doing what it is supposed to be doing – which is kill the cancer”. And she revealed she will have further scans on Thursday to see if it is reducing or has spread.
Tracy continued: “So I’ve put all my priorities in resting and healing before the next blast. Also, I’ve got a birthday coming up so I’ve been reflecting on…you never know what’s gonna happen. This time last year, I was so happy to be 50, I was so happy to be 51, so happy to be 52 and I really didn’t know what was round the corner.
“This one will be really special. I won’t be able to do much and I don’t really ever celebrate my birthdays that much. By the way, it’s not til next week. But healing while I’m going through the process, I just feel, is really important.
“For me, this journey is…I can’t do much in between each blast of chemo and the couple of weeks after the chemo are really horrible, when the body is dying and coming back to life. I’m not coming back to who I was and that’s okay because it’s doing its job but I just needed to be honest with you and that’s where I’m at.”
