Inquiries on pending restricted free agent Braden Schneider continue to roll in as the Rangers prepare for the NHL Draft and the start of free agency July 1.
The incentive to trade the young defenseman, however, lies in the potential of the return rather than looking to part ways with a player the organization traded up to select 19th overall in the 2020 NHL Draft.
If the Blueshirts are going to trade Schneider this offseason, a comparable player must be coming back to New York. A source indicated that is the prerequisite for president and general manager Chris Drury to sign off on a trade for the 24-year-old blueliner.
A comparable would be a player in the 23-27 age range who is under team control and could have untapped potential.
