Traffic Congestion Returns to KBR Park Roads

Traffic congestion has returned to roads surrounding KBR National Park over the past two weeks despite the introduction of one-way restrictions on August 18 under the H-CITI project. Ongoing flyover construction between Road No. 2, Banjara Hills, and Gymkhana Club, along with increased traffic volume, has led to bottlenecks along the stretch.

The one-way system had initially provided relief to motorists, with traffic moving smoothly for a few weeks. However, congestion has gradually increased, particularly near NTR Trust, Agrasen Statue and Phoenix Halcyon.

Motorists said frequent lane changes, construction barricades and narrow stretches were contributing to delays.

Dr P. Avinash, a paediatrician who travels from his residence at Tirumala Hills in Manikonda to his hospital on Road No. 1, Banjara Hills, said vehicles switching between lanes were slowing traffic. “Changing lanes by vehicles is causing the delay as they are not able to decide the lane. Apart from this, the flyover works near Prasad Lab have become bottleneck choking traffic.”

Unnissa Waseem, a resident of Sun City, who travels to Phoenix Halcyon, said congestion had returned after a brief period of smoother traffic movement.

“Traffic around KBR Park had eased for a few weeks after the one-way restrictions were introduced, but congestion had returned, particularly between Film Nagar and Journalist Colony. The restrictions also forced motorists to take longer detours, including through Journalist Colony towards Maha Prasthanam, while returning home in the evening.”

Traffic officials said the volume of vehicles using the stretch had increased, particularly with motorists travelling from Tolichowki towards Hitec City, Madhapur and Kondapur.Hyderabad Traffic DCP Kajal Singh said increased traffic volume, bottlenecks and construction activity were affecting vehicle movement.

“The increase in traffic volume, bottlenecks, ongoing construction works and widening of barricades are the major reasons for congestion. Traffic movement from Omega Hospital towards Journalist Colony has been affected by the narrow road and a sudden increase in the number of vehicles,” the DCP said.

Officials monitoring traffic movement advised motorists to use alternative routes wherever possible to avoid congestion. They said traffic conditions were expected to improve after the completion of the ongoing development works.
