HYDERABAD: Hyderabad has a vehicle population of about 95 lakh, growing by 1,500–2,000 new vehicles daily, managed by only 2,500–3,000 personnel in two shifts. To bridge this gap, the Hyderabad City Security Council (HCSC) inaugurated 30 new traffic patrol bikes.
City police commissioner and HCSC chairman V. C. Sajjanar launched the bikes, which will be deployed using real‑time CCTV monitoring to clear breakdowns and accidents on major roads and flyovers.
Equipped with sirens, the patrol units will also remove illegal parking and pushcarts obstructing primary corridors, while regulating gridlocks in connecting by‑lanes.
Addressing the gathering, Sajjanar said the HCSC platform had successfully deployed 120 traffic marshals in the past six months to assist students, patients and senior citizens at busy intersections. He also highlighted ‘Spandana’ vehicles, an all‑women safety initiative launched two months ago to protect women and girls in distress. Ten such vehicles are operational, with plans to expand the model to every police station using eco‑friendly electric four‑wheelers.
The event was attended by joint commissioner of police (Traffic) D. Joel Davis, C. Shekhar Reddy, V. Rajasekhar Reddy from HCSC, senior police officials and corporate leaders.
