Hyderabad:The byelection for the Khairatabad Assembly constituency is set for a triangular contest involving the ruling Congress, the BRS and the BJP. The AIMIM is likely to support the Congress, as it did in the Jubilee Hills bypoll.
The constituency has 1.86 lakh electors following the 2026 Special Intensive Revision, down from 2.68 lakh earlier. It has a sizable Muslim electorate in areas including Zaheernagar in Banjara Hills, BS Maqta, MS Maqta, parts of Sanathnagar and Devarkonda Basti. The Reddy community accounts for more than 30,000 votes, while BC and SC voters have a strong presence in several parts of the segment.
Khairatabad includes upscale localities such as Jubilee Hills Roads No. 36, 45 and 54 and Filmnagar, as well as dozens of middle-income colonies.
In the previous Assembly election, BRS candidate Danam Nagender won with 67,368 votes. Congress’ P. Vijaya Reddy finished second with 45,358, followed by the BJP’s Chintala Ramachandra Reddy with 38,094. NOTA received 1,194 votes.
Unlike in some other Assembly segments, issues involving properties listed under Section 22-A of the Registration Act, land acquisition for the Musi riverfront project and action by the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) appear to affect relatively few voters in Khairatabad.
