VISAKHAPATNAM: Tribal farmers from Ajaypuram and Z-Jaggampeta villages staged a dharna at Z-Jaggampeta in Anakapalle district on Saturday, alleging prolonged delays in updating land records and issuing death certificates.
The protesters demanded the immediate registration of their lands in Webland, transfer of pattas to legal heirs and action against revenue officials who allegedly failed to process their applications.
They also sought a revenue re-survey in Cheemalapadu village and an inquiry into the functioning of local revenue officials. The CPM organised the protest with the support of tribal leaders.
According to the protesters, the government distributed D-pattas to 1,176 beneficiaries across 14 tribal villages under the Cheemalapadu revenue limits of Ravikamatham mandal nearly 40 years ago. Although the beneficiaries and their descendants have been cultivating the lands since then, many holdings reportedly do not figure in Webland records.
Several original patta holders have died, and their heirs have sought mutation of the land records in their names. Despite repeated representations, officials have allegedly failed to make the necessary changes. The protesters said applications for death certificates, which are required for mutation, had remained pending for months and, in some cases, years.
Farmers from Z-Jaggampeta claimed that lands their families had cultivated for generations were either missing from Webland records or registered in the names of others. This had created uncertainty over ownership and prevented them from accessing government benefits and other services, they said.
The families of Gadabari Rajababu, Kondapalli Kalyanam, Kondapalli Shankarrao, Goda Ramana and Biddha Journey Rambabu have been seeking mutation of pattas following the deaths of their parents. However, the villagers said their requests remained unresolved.
In Ajaypuram, Vanthala Deepalu, Song Babuji and Pangi Parvathi reportedly applied for death certificates several years ago but are yet to receive them. They alleged that revenue officials had neither processed nor traced their applications despite repeated representations.
Addressing the gathering, CPM district executive committee member K. Govinda Rao and tribal leaders said unresolved Webland issues were affecting hundreds of tribal families. They demanded immediate correction of land records, issuance of pending death certificates, transfer of pattas to legal heirs and a comprehensive re-survey of revenue lands in the area.
