
Visakhapatnam: Members of Vyavasaya Karmika Sangham, along with Girijana Sangham, staged a padayatra in Ravikamatham mandal of Anakapalli district demanding cancellation of the VB-G RAM G scheme, continuation of the MGNREGA, and withdrawal of the mandatory ‘Face App’ requirement in villages without mobile network coverage.
The tribal march culminated in to a massive rally at the Mandal Parishad Development Officer (MPDO)’s office seeking uninterrupted employment opportunities and continuation of the MGNREGA scheme.
Residents from villages including T. Ajjapuram, Kotnabilli, Bennavaram, Kalyanalova, Ajaypuram, Jogampeta, and Tatiparthi participated in the padayatra from Garnekam to the mandal headquarters.
Villagers from Old Kotnabilli, K. Kotnabilli, K. Gadabhapalem, and Ramanna Dorapalem highlighted the severe hardships caused by poor internet connectivity. They explained that they have to climb hills for up to two kilometres to access the ‘Face App’ for pension and welfare-related work. They called for installation of a dedicated cell tower to ease these difficulties.
The protestors sought improvements in welfare services, including facilities of Mid-Day Meal for anganwadi children. They insisted that funds allocated in the previous budget for employment schemes must not be allowed to lapse.
They submitted a detailed representation to the MPDO seeking sanction of funds for road works under the Employment Guarantee Scheme on lands belonging to PVTG tribes in Z. Bennavaram, issuance of new job cards to 20 individuals in Z. Jogampeta, and inclusion of 18 families in the existing job cards.
Those who led the padayatra and spoke on the occasion included Vyavasaya Karmika Sangham district assistant secretary K. Govinda Rao, Girijana Sangham leaders Padi Bennayya and Singarapu Valasayya, and PVTG Sangham representatives Gammila Vasu, Gammila Raju, and Gammila Prasad.
