Visakhapatnam: Tribal communities and poor farmers staged a protest in the K. Addasaram village of Rolugunta mandal, demanding an inquiry by the joint collector into the controversial revival of Khata No. 559. The protesters alleged that the khata, which had been cancelled in 2018 following an official inquiry, was recently restored through a digital signature by the present tahsildar.

Speaking to the media, K. Janardhan, state executive member of the All India Rural and Agricultural Workers Association, alleged that a former journalist from Yelamanchili attempted to illegally occupy lands belonging to Duvvuru Surya Prakasham and his father Srihari of Kasimkota. He claimed that in 2004 a false legal heir certificate was allegedly created showing the former journalist as the legal heir of Duvvuru Surya Prakasham. Janardhan further alleged that an unregistered will was fabricated as part of an attempt to grab the lands.

He recalled that K. Venkata Siva, who served as tahsildar in 2004, had filed a police complaint alleging forgery of his signature and misuse of official seals of the tahsildar’s office.

According to Janardhan, the then joint collector of the undivided Visakhapatnam district personally conducted an inquiry in Addasaram village. Following the probe, the revenue divisional officer of Narsipatnam, through an order dated November 6, 2018, cancelled the changes made in the 1B register and withdrew the digital signature linked to Rayavarapu Chandrasekhara Rao.

However, Janardhan alleged that, despite a revision petition still pending before the joint collector, the present tahsildar restored the digital signature on April 6, nearly eight years after its cancellation. Protesters demanded immediate cancellation of the restored digital signature, a fresh inquiry by the joint collector, and action against those allegedly involved in forgery and land grabbing.
