Trivedi, Ghosh Dastidar Get Key House Panels

NEW DELHI: BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi has replaced Trinamul Congress MP Dola Sen as chairperson of the parliamentary standing committee on commerce, while Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, a leader of the TMC’s rebel faction, has taken over the chemicals and fertilisers panel from Kirti Azad.

The appointments were announced as Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla reconstituted department-related parliamentary standing committees on Saturday, according to a notification.

DMK MPs Tiruchi Siva and K. Kanimozhi were reappointed chairpersons of the panels on industry and food, consumer affairs and public distribution, respectively.

Leaders of BJP allies, including the JD-U, Shiv Sena and TD, also retained their positions as heads of various committees.

Congress MPs Shashi Tharoor and Charanjit Singh Channi were retained as chairpersons of the external affairs and agriculture panels, respectively.

Congress’ Mukul Wasnik will continue to head the panel on education, women, children, youth and sports, while the Samajwadi Party’s Ram Gopal Yadav was retained as chairperson of the health and family welfare committee.

BJP’s Radha Mohan Singh will head the defence panel. Sanjay Kumar Jha of the JD-U was reappointed chairperson of the transport, tourism and culture committee, while Shiv Sena’s Shrirang Barne retained charge of the energy panel.

BJP’s Nishikant Dubey was reappointed head of the communications and information technology committee. His party colleague Medha Vishram Kulkarni, an MP from Maharashtra, retained the chairpersonship of the panel on science and technology, environment, forests and climate change.

BJP’s Sujeet Kumar replaced party colleague Brij Lal as chairperson of the personnel, public grievances, law and justice committee.

Former Union minister Anurag Thakur was reappointed head of the coal, mines and steel panel, while BJP’s Rajiv Pratap Rudy retained charge of the water resources committee.

BJP’s Bhartruhari Mahtab will continue to head the finance panel, while party colleague Radha Mohan Das Agrawal retained the chairpersonship of the home affairs committee.

Sudheer Gupta of the BJP replaced party colleague C.M. Ramesh as chairperson of the railways panel. Congress’ Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka was reappointed head of the rural development and Panchayati Raj committee.
