The Denver Broncos will face the Kansas City Chiefs on the road in a Monday Night Football showdown at 6:15 p.m. MT (8:15 p.m. ET) on Sept. 14 in Week 1 of the 2026 NFL season.
The prime-time matchup — which will be televised on ABC, ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes (en español) — was the topic of conversation on ESPN’s “Get Up” show last week.

Troy Aikman noted that this first Monday night game of the 2026 NFL season will be a “Great opener,” saying, “as far as these quarterbacks coming off of serious injuries, I think everyone’s wondering whether or not Patrick Mahomes obviously is going to be back for that one.”
“With Denver, you could argue that they were a quarterback injury away from making it to the Super Bowl … what a great job Sean Peyton has done.”

Aikman noted this game will “help set the tone in what is a very competitive division.”
The Broncos won both games against the Chiefs last fall, sweeping Kansas City for the first time since 2014. Hopefully the Broncos can repeat that performance again this season with Mahomes (presumably) back under center. Aikman will be joined by Joe Box in the ESPN broadcast booth for the AFC West showdown.
