A livestock truck carrying about 200 pigs overturned on Monday on a roundabout on the Groenloseweg in Eibergen in the Netherlands.
Some of the pigs ended up on the road and in the grass next to the roundabout. Over 50 pigs died.
The driver lost control of his truck on the roundabout and tipped over. Emergency services rounded up the pigs and led them to a grass area beside the roundabout. Firefighters worked to free the remaining live pigs from the overturned trailer.
Later reports indicated that at least 51 pigs died as a result of the accident. A veterinarian was on site to assess the animals. The surviving pigs were placed into another livestock truck to be killed at a slaughterhouse.
