TIRUPATI: A meeting of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Trust Board is scheduled on Wednesday. It is expected to discuss the findings of the one-man commission on allegedly adulterated ghee supplies. A resolution seeking action against former officials responsible for the adulteration is likely to be placed before the board.

TTD Board member and BJP leader G. Bhanu Prakash Reddy said he would raise the issue during the board meeting. He cited the report of the commission headed by retired IAS officer Dinesh Kumar pointing to lapses at various levels, leading to the procurement of substandard ghee. Bhanu Prakash Reddy named former TTD executive officer (EO) Anil Kumar Singhal, former additional executive officer A.V. Dharma Reddy, and former TTD Board chairmen Y.V. Subba Reddy and Bhumana Karunakar Reddy for allowing lapses in procurement of ghee. The TTD Board member said relaxation of procurement norms resulted in supply of inferior quality ghee. He reiterated that the Board will discuss the one-man commission’s findings and consider a resolution seeking action against those found responsible.

There is likely to be a detailed discussion on maintaining quality standards in preparation of Srivari laddu prasadam at Lord Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Tirumala. The controversy dates back to allegations made during the previous government led by Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) had earlier examined the matter, and the state government later constituted the one-man committee to review the SIT findings. The panel has since submitted its report. In addition to the committee report, the TTD Board is expected to discuss measures to improve pilgrim amenities and strengthen infrastructure in Tirumala in view of the increasing number of devotees. The proposal to rename the four Mada streets around the Tirumala Temple after the four Vedas is likely to be taken up.

Other streets in Tirumala may be named after saint-composers, such as Annamacharya, Ramadasu, Purandaradasa and Tarigonda Vengamamba, apart from temple servitors like Tirumala Nambi and Ananthalwar. The TTD Trust Board is also expected to consider renaming localities such as Mullagunta, RBC Centre, and Medaramitta after revered saints. Other proposals on the agenda are developing a township at Alipiri in Tirupati and modernising Kalyani Satram in Tirumala to improve accommodation facilities for devotees.
