Two critical after unit fire west of Brisbane

A man and a woman suffered life-threatening injuries after a fire broke out in a unit west of Brisbane in the early hours of Tuesday.

Emergency services were called to Melville Drive in Ipswich about 4.20am.

Two people were inside the unit when the fire started.

A woman and a man – both in their 60s – were injured and were transported to hospital.

Another four people were in a neighbouring unit at the time but were not physically hurt.

Police said investigations were under way to determine the cause of the fire and if it had been deliberately lit.

They remained on the scene on Tuesday morning.
