Besides Sonu Narayan Das of MVSR Engineering College, Nadergul, who died in the truss collapse on Sunday, two other students remained in critical condition on Monday. Doctors said they were being treated in the ICU of a private hospital for lung and abdominal injuries.
The condition of Meena Narayan Das, Sona’s sister and one among the 23 students hospitalised, was improving, doctors added.
Police identified the event organiser as PS Truss & Lighting. The firm’s office has been shut and its personnel are absconding. The owner, Mallela Saket, has been listed as absconding. Police also booked the MVSR College management in the case.
The case was registered for culpable homicide and causing death due to negligence under Sections 105 and 125(A) of the BNS. Four workers who installed the structure and lighting have been detained for questioning.
“We received a complaint against the organiser and college management for negligence when the incident occurred within the college premises. We will take action as per law. A special team has been formed to arrest those responsible for death due to negligence,” said Adibatla station house officer M. Ramesh.
Over 60 girl students were injured when a truss set up without safety measures collapsed during Dandiya celebrations at MVSR College around 7.30 pm on Saturday. The college had outsourced the event to PS Truss & Lighting and Electrical. Of the 60 injured, 23 were shifted to hospital while others received first aid.
Though no arrests have been made yet, police booked a culpable homicide case against the organiser and college management. Saket, described as a freelance event organiser, closed his shop and is absconding.

Other injuries among students outside the ICU include nasal bone fractures and minimal effusion. Of the 23 injured, one died, nine are being treated at Yashoda Hospital, Malakpet, one at Yashoda Hospital, Secunderabad, and the rest have been discharged, the DMHO said.
