UCLA vs Oregon Prediction: Are the Bruins Ready For This?

When was the last time UCLA played a football game that mattered this much?

In 2022, the Bruins started the season 6-0 before going to Oregon, but that UCLA team was a bit of a mirage. No, this isn’t at the 1998 level yet, when the team was 10-0 and deep in the national title hunt before losing in a historic 49-45 thriller against Edgerrin James and Miami.

And no, this UCLA team isn’t there yet in Bob Chesney’s first season, but if it pulls this off, everything changes.

Oregon got back to being Oregon again with a 41-27 win over USC, but Dante Moore is out, Dylan Raiola is in, and this is when it has to flex at home and show just how much the Week 2 loss to Oklahoma State was a blip.

UCLA vs Oregon: Quick Hits

  • Oregon gets three home games in the next four weeks. It plays unbeaten UCLA this week, hosts currently unbeaten Nebraska next week, goes to Illinois, and then hosts Northwestern before traveling to Ohio State.

  • UCLA plays three home games in a row after this, hosting Wisconsin, Michigan State, and Nevada before going to Minnesota.

  • Oregon has won five straight in the series since 2017, last winning 34-13 in 2024.

Why UCLA Will Win

Oregon hasn’t dealt with a running game like this.

The one time it had a problem with a ground attack was against Oklahoma State, when it got hammered for 237 yards and close to six yards per carry. UCLA is fourth in the nation in rushing, averaging 281.5 yards per game and seven yards per carry.

Oregon’s run defense has had time to prepare – the loss to the Cowboys really was an aberration – but the Bruins get physical and grind teams down.

Why Oregon Will Win

Cal’s Jaron Keawe-Sagapolutele got beaten up by the Bruins, but he still threw for close to 300 yards. Purdue’s Ryan Browne went off for 378 yards and three scores in UCLA’s 52-38 win.

Dylan Raiola is about to have a day.

UCLA has a pass rush and should be able to get to Raiola a bit against an Oregon offensive line that hasn’t been a rock so far, but the passing game will blow up.

UCLA vs Oregon Prediction, Betting Lines

The key to UCLA is the ability to hang around and then take over in the second half. The problem is that it won’t be able to do that so easily against an Oregon defense that’s No. 1 in the nation in third down stops.

The Bruins are going to be a problem for the Big Ten the rest of the season – seriously, even with a loss here, they still have a great shot to be in the CFP mix – but Oregon really is one of the ten best teams in college football, and when it has to midway through the second half, it’ll show why.
