Haunting pictures of Liam Payne’s tragic last hours have emerged in new police files two years after his death. The One Direction star, 31, left his legion of loyal fans bereft in 2024 when he died after falling 46ft from the third-floor balcony of his hotel suite in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The singer had travelled to Argentina 16 days before his death while waiting for his US visa renewal. He had spent much of the trip with girlfriend Kate Cassidy and businessman Rogelio “Roger” Nores and was reportedly sober during the first two weeks of his stay before Kate returned to Miami on October 14.
The singer checked out of the luxury Park Hyatt he stayed in with Kate after allegedly damaging his room and having an angry confrontation with staff. He then moved to the CasaSur Palermo Hotel, where his life was cut brutally short.
A tragic trove of documents, photographs, sworn statements and official reports gathered by investigators after Liam died in Buenos Aires have now been shared. In evidence shared by The Mail, heartbreaking CCTV image shows the dad-of-one, hollow-eyed and drawn, stumbling through the corridors just one hour before he plunged to his death.
The report also reveals his family’s heartache, with a sworn statement from Liam’s father Geoff, who told prosecutors his son ‘went away’ when he was in the grip of his demons saying: “He was not in control with what he did. He was not Liam.”
Liam allegedly started calling the front desk of his hotel asking for drugs and was ordering multiple bottles of Johnnie Walker Black label whisky from room service.
The police files reportedly contain messages from a ‘Reception’ group WhatsApp chat on October 14, where hotel manager Gilda Martin wrote: “This person is going to be very intense throughout his stay. It’s important that we tell him ‘no’, always kindly and with excuses. This is to stop him from continuing to be aggressive. Or at least not so much.”
Reception replied: “Will do whatever we can as long as he doesn’t get violent.”
Liam reportedly contacted two escorts while at the hotel after finding one of their profiles online. According to their statements, the singer sent pictures of himself in bed and a video proving his identity after one woman struggled to believe she was communicating with the One Direction star. The women said they arrived at the hotel at around 11.30am, showed identification at reception and were allowed up to his room.
They claimed there was a language barrier because Liam only spoke English while they spoke Spanish, meaning they relied on a translation app to communicate. They said: “During our time there, we had sex with him, which was consensual sex, only once, and he wore protection.”
The pair said they spent around two hours with Liam before asking again for the agreed payment. They claimed he instead offered them his Rolex, which they said he later smashed when they refused.
One of the women said: “We told him we only wanted money so he took it and smashed it. He told us he didn’t care about the money.
“And then he broke the TV, he punched it. He made us understand that he could smash everything because he knew he could pay for it.”
While pictures have previously emerged of a smashed TV set, Liam’s Room 310, was said to be ‘carnage’.
Photos show sheets were pulled off the bed, what appeared to be streaks of blood on the bathroom sink, and drug paraphernalia littered the room, including burned Coca-Cola can lids, a blackened spoon and half-burned candles. Police and prosecutors believe Liam heated the powdered cocaine into a liquid ‘crack’ form of the drug which he snorted or injected.
CCTV footage later shows the star pacing back and forth. while the escorts, who had left Liam’s room, were in the lobby. The women left around 3.30pm and Liam’s friend Roger arrived at 4pm, the footage shows.
The men talked, but Roger said his Liam did not seem impaired and so he left again. Forty minutes later, the star was dead. Roger was originally charged with ‘abandoning’ Liam, but all charges were dropped.
Initially five individuals were charged in connection with the incident, including allegations of drug supply and negligence. By 2026, three suspects had all charges dropped, including businessman Rogelio Luis “Roger” Nores, who was cleared of manslaughter and drug‑supply accusations
Meanwhile, two remaining defendants, accused of selling cocaine to Payne, are in plea negotiations that may result in shorter sentences.
Exactly what happened to Liam may never been known, however another new image of the star has posed a new theory surrounding his death. In the grainy photo from the police files, the singer is dressed in a green top and grey jeans, swinging around a pole outside the hotel at 3.21am in the early hours of the morning before he died.
A source close to the investigation last week said police consider the pole picture ‘highly significant’ because it showed Liam’s upper body strength. This suggests that, rather than being suicidal, he may have been trying to climb out of his hotel room, confident he could hold his weight, before he lost his grip and died.
Liam lost his life thousands of miles from home, leaving his family, friends and millions of fans heartbroken. He also left his beloved son, Bear, without a father, in a tragedy, which left the world in mourning.
