USMNT captain Christian Pulisic made his first public comments about his breakup with girlfriend Alexa Melton, a month after the golfer posted and then retracted an accusation that the soccer star was on the exclusive dating app Raya while they were still together.
Pulisic, 27, reflected fondly, and briefly, on his relationship with Melton during an interview with Time.
“I only look at her in the most positive way,” Pulisic said during a February interview that was published last week. “She was a lot of fun, and she supported me in every way. She wanted to push me to enjoy my life a little bit more and do things with her and do things just in general. And I was grateful for that.”
Pulisic declined to reveal why the couple split, according to Time.
Last month, Melton responded to an Instagram user who commented regarding her split from Pulisic: “This generational fumble will be studied for years to come.”
Melton replied to the comment with, “How many likes to post his Raya profile.”
She then added in a separate comment, “Mans was on Raya before it even ended.”
On April 9, Melton walked the comments back.
“I’ve made some comments on a private matter and it’s been taken out of context,” she wrote in an Instagram story. “I received false info. He is not a cheater. Any narrative beyond that is not mine.
“Out of respect for Christian’s and my privacy, I will not speak further regarding this matter.”
The couple went public in July 2024. It’s not clear when they broke up, though they weren’t together as of Pulisic’s February interview with Time.
Pulisic slid into Melton’s DMs, as revealed in the Paramount+ docuseries “Pulisic” that was released in December 2024.
He is finishing up his club season with AC Milan in Italy before leading the USMNT into the 2026 World Cup on home soil.
After exhibitions against Senegal on May 31 in Charlotte and Germany on June 6 in Chicago, the U.S. will begin Group D play on June 12 against Paraguay in Los Angeles.
They then face Australia on June 19 in Seattle before finishing group play against Turkey in Los Angeles.
This is the first time the World Cup will feature 48 teams. The top two teams from each of the 12 groups, plus the eight best third-place teams, will advance to the Round of 32.
