Vanessa Bryant honors Gianna on birthday, announces student-athlete scholarships: ‘Your spirit and beautiful heart continue to light the way’

Vanessa Bryant shared several tributes to her late daughter, Gianna, on Friday — and each was quite emotional.

Gianna, one of Vanessa and Kobe Bryant‘s four children, would have turned 20 on the date, and to celebrate, Vanessa first shared a picture of the two kissing on her Instagram page.

“Happy birthday to my sweet baby angel, Gianna,” Vanessa wrote in a caption on the image. “Words can’t express how much I love and miss you mamacita. Mommy loves you so much! #HappyBirthday #20.”

Vanessa then posted a video on the social media app announcing that scholarships worth $500,000 had been doled out to 20 student athletes in her honor.

“Congratulations to all of our 2026 Scholars! We are deeply honored to invest in your future,” Vanessa and the Mamba & Mambacita Sports Foundation shared in a caption on the footage.

“And to our Gigi, Happy 20th Birthday! Your vision, your spirit, and your beautiful heart continue to light the way.”

Vanessa’s third homage came on her Stories, where she penned yet another happy birthday note to her daughter.

Gianna, Kobe and seven others tragically passed away in a January 2020 helicopter crash. Kobe was 41; Gianna was 13.

Vanessa has worked tirelessly on ways to make sure their legacies will be forever remembered, including setting up foundations, releasing special sneakers and honoring special anniversaries over the years with heartfelt acknowledgments.
