CHENNAI: The AGS Colony Residents’ Welfare Association (ACRWA) in Velachery West organised its sixth annual thanksgiving lunch for conservancy workers on Tuesday at Hotel Akshayam, Velachery.

A total of 150 people participated in the event, including 135 sanitary workers from Sumeet–Elko, ward 176, and the OCS team of Adyar zone of Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC), along with 15 officials from the civic body and Sumeet–Elko.

The annual initiative is aimed at recognising the contribution of sanitation workers to maintaining cleanliness and hygiene in the neighbourhood. The association said their work deserved greater recognition and appreciation, particularly during challenging weather conditions and the monsoon season.

ACRWA also thanked GCC and Sumeet–Elko officials for their continued coordination and support, as well as residents and well-wishers whose contributions helped them organise the event.

Geetha Ganesh, secretary of ACRWA, said the annual luncheon was a gesture of gratitude towards the frontline workers who play a vital role in maintaining the neighbourhood’s cleanliness and well-being.
