Vernon Kay has proven that his split from Tess Daly has been the ‘friendliest’ in the entertainment industry after he complimented his now ex-wife

Vernon Kay rushed to support his ex-wife Tess Daly after a trip abroad with their daughter. Former Strictly Come Dancing presenter Tess, 57, recently jetted out to New York with her lookalike daughter, Phoebe and shared a string of snaps from their getaway with her thousands of Instagram followers.

Earlier this year, Tess and Vernon, 52, left fans shocked when they announced that they had decided to split and were heading for a divorce. The once-golden couple of showbiz had been married for 22 years before the announcement.

But while most couples heading for divorce are often locked in a bitter war of words, this is far from the case for Vernon and Tess. Instead, Radio 2 star Vernon was on hand to support Tess with a rather gushing social media comment.

After reuniting with Phoebe, 21, who resides in America, Tess shared a string of snaps from their outings around the Big Apple, including a stop at the famous Black Seed Bagels eatery.

Captioning her post, Tess penned: “NYC with my best girls #HelloGorgeous.” Her now ex-husband, Vernon, gushed: “What a few days,” alongside a red heart and a fire emoji. Phoebe added: “Love you the best time ever.”

Last month, the couple, in a joint statement, said: “After much consideration, and with a deep sense of care and respect for one another, we have made the decision to separate amicably.

“This has not been an easy choice, but it comes from a place of mutual understanding and a shared desire for what is best for both of us. We remain great friends and most importantly, fully committed to our roles as loving and supportive parents, which will always be our priority.

“There are no other parties involved in this decision. We kindly ask for privacy during this time as we navigate this transition together. We will not be making any further public comments. Tess and Vernon.”

A source later claimed that the former couple will not “need to battle” against one another and insisted that the divorce will be “straightforward”. They said both Vernon and Tess have been “clever” with their big BBC incomes and are individually well-off, meaning they don’t need to fight over who gets what.

“Compared to the majority of showbiz splits, this is rather straightforward,” they told the Daily Mail. Vernon is thought to be paid £395,000 for his job on BBC Radio 2, making him one of the highest-paid presenters there. Meanwhile, whilst she was the co-host of Strictly Come Dancing, Tess was said to be paid around £400,000, which was supplemented by income from her swimwear brand NAIA Beach.

And Vernon’s own dad weighed in on the split, confirming that there was no bad blood between his son and ex-wife. “Of course, it’s sad when people split up, and we’re all very fond of Tess; they made a lovely couple,” he told the Daily Mail.

He went on to explain that Vernon and Tess had “gone in different directions” with their lives, adding that these can occasionally lead to better things. “This is one of those cases,” he commented.

“Tess is a lovely woman, and we want to make sure everyone is all right in this – her, Vernon and obviously our grandchildren,” Norman said.
