Hyderabad: Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) joint general secretary Dr Surendra Kumar Jain announced plans to form more ‘go rakshak dals’ if the state government failed to curb what he called rising instances of cow slaughter, particularly during Bakrid in Hyderabad. Speaking at a press conference here, he said the state’s 1977 Prohibition of Cow Slaughter Act was ineffective, noting that there were no convictions in its over 50 years of existence.

Dr Jain accused authorities of booking cases against go rashaks while seized cows were allegedly rerouted to smugglers, with not even the minimal Rs 1,000 fine imposed on the offenders. He said the VHP had formed a legal cell to push for stringent amendments to the law. “Cow slaughter is increasing year after year, the government must act,” he urged.

Present at the event were VHP state president B. Narasimha Murthy, national spokesperson Dr Ravinuthala Shashidhar, and go raksha convener M. Subash Chander.

Dr Jain also condemned “anti-Hindu rhetoric” by leaders, including statements by Tamil Nadu leader Udayanidhi Stalin and Telangana minister Konda Surekha against Sanatana Dharma and the Jai Shri Ram chant. Dr Jain vowed that the VHP would fight the “from streets to courts” for Hindu cultural and religious rights.

He demanded freedom of temple control from the state governments, insisting that the funds be used solely for Hindu causes. “We seek socialisation, not government-ization of temples,” he asserted.

Dr Jain announced a nationwide anti-conversion campaign, with VHP teams presenting a “model anti-conversion law” to Chief Ministers to stop fraud-induced conversions. He cautioned against misusing Telangana’s proposed Telangana Hate Speech and Hate Crimes (Prevention) Act, 2026, which has been referred to a select committee for examination and review, to silence Hindu voices, threatening statewide protests.
