Vicky Pattison got emotional as she opened up about her hopes for starting a family and spoke frankly about her expectations to be a mum by the time she was 38

Vicky Pattison has shared an emotional update on her fertility journey, admitting she sometimes feels “lost” as she opened up about her hopes of starting a family with husband Ercan Ramadan.

The former Geordie Shore star, 38, became tearful while discussing motherhood on the BBC’s Sort Your Life Out Unpacked podcast, revealing she never imagined reaching this stage of her life without children.

Holding back tears, Vicky explained that while she had spent years focused on building her career and never felt ready to become a mum, her outlook has now changed. She shared, “I didn’t think I’d be this age without a baby or a family.”

Vicky, who married her husband Ercan in 2024 after several years together, said she had always been content with the path her life had taken, but admitted that wanting a baby has become much more significant now she feels ready.

She said: “It’s just the way the cookie crumbles and like how life sometimes like presents you with different things and different opportunities and stuff. And I’ve never really felt ready until now.

“It’s wild but like something just clicks, and the minute you feel ready it’s like you need a baby straight away. And all my whole life I felt so content and so happy and so proud of the things I was doing, and now all of a sudden, because I don’t have a baby, I feel a bit lost.”

Vicky revealed she and Ercan are trying not to put too much pressure on themselves as they look to the future together. Praising her husband, she went on say she knows he will make “such a great dad”.

The TV personality previously revealed she froze her eggs at the age of 35 in a bid to take control of her fertility.

The process resulted in three embryos being frozen, something she said has given the couple a sense of reassurance while they continue trying for a family.

She also expressed hope that fertility preservation treatments will one day become more accessible, saying she would like to see egg freezing made available to more women at a more affordable cost.

Trying to inject some humour into the emotional conversation, Vicky quipped that Ercan was “having a lovely time”, before admitting patience has never been one of her strengths.

The reality star has spoken candidly about motherhood in recent years.

Speaking to Women’s Health UK last year, she admitted she still had “a huge question mark over motherhood” and described the expectation to have children after getting married as “suffocating”.

She explained that she had worked hard to build her career and acknowledged that stepping away from it to start a family felt daunting.

Vicky has also become a vocal advocate for egg freezing, although she has acknowledged the treatment is expensive and not an option available to everyone.

She said: “Women shouldn’t be beholden to this invisible timeline. We’re fed this narrative that we can have it all and do whatever we want, but it’s not necessarily true. In women’s lives, there has to be a lot of compromise involved.

“I met Ercan when I was 31 and wanted to give our relationship breathing space… It’s been the best thing I’ve ever done. I felt really suffocated, on a kind of conveyor belt, and now I feel free.”
