Chennai: The DMK has taken the second position leading in 57 seats compared to the AIADMK which is leading in 51 constituencies which is 15 seats less compared to the 2021 Assembly elections. Vijay’s Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) is leading in 108 seats which is 10 short of the majority mark.
The vote share of the DMK which was 37.7 percent in the 2021 Assembly elections has fallen to 23.99 percent while the AIADMK which obtained 33.29 percent in the previous Assembly elections dropped to 21.87 percent as at 3 pm on Monday. The BJP which polled around 18 percent in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections secured only 3.09 percent votes now and the Congress vote share was slightly higher with 3.64 percent.
Even if the Congress decides to support the TVK to form a government, the national party leads in only 4 seats despite contesting in 28 constituencies in the DMK alliance. DMK ally IUML is leading in two seats while the other ally CPI is leading in two seats. The CPI-M which conducted several rounds of party meetings to get 5 seats from the DMK is leading in one seat. The DMDK whose entry caused confusion in the seat sharing negotiations of the DMK front is leading in only one seat despite contesting in ten constituencies.
