MANGALURU: Once regarded as a laggard in police performance, Vijayapura district has turned the tables by securing the top position in Karnataka in the monthly Police IT Dashboard ranking, bringing a sense of achievement and renewed confidence among its police personnel.

The Vijayapura district police scored 71.92 points to earn a ‘Very Good’ grade in the monthly performance assessment under the State Police Headquarters’ ‘Police IT Dashboard’.

Dharwad stood second with 70.12 points, followed by Bagalkot with 68.06 points.

The dashboard-based assessment is intended to bring greater transparency and accountability into police administration by tracking the work of officers and personnel. The initiative was introduced under the leadership of Home Minister Priyank Kharge.

The achievement comes after Vijayapura Superintendent of Police Laxman Nimbargi placed particular emphasis on technology-driven policing, regular monitoring and improving the efficiency of the district police. The department has credited the collective efforts of officers and personnel for the turnaround.

The Police IT Dashboard was introduced to assess the functioning of police units through a transparent system that tracks their performance on a range of parameters. The monthly ranking covers 40 police units across the state and is based on 14 indicators.

The assessment includes timely disposal of cases, filing of charge sheets within the prescribed period, reduction in road accidents, digital recording of evidence through e-Sakshya, electronic service of summons and implementation of the e-Beat system.

The updating of records of habitual offenders and history-sheeters, tracing missing persons, preventive action, disposal of public petitions and detection of stolen property are also taken into account.

The assessment further covers the return of recovered property to rightful owners, enforcement of special and local laws and timely completion of citizen services such as passport and employment verification.
