Vijayawada Police Get Bomb Squad Facility

VIJAYAWADA: NTR district and city police commissioner S.V. Rajasekhar Babu on Thursday inaugurated a newly built Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) facility at the City Armed Reserve Grounds under the NTR police commissionerate.

The facility includes a store room, workshop and dog handlers’ rest room. It has been set up to strengthen security arrangements during visits by dignitaries and VVIPs, besides improving preparedness for bandobast duties, narcotics operations and criminal investigations.

Police officials said the trained bomb detection teams, functioning under the supervision of CSW DCP S.V.D. Prasad, regularly conduct inspections to detect explosives and help ensure peaceful conduct of major events and high-profile visits.

Rajasekhar Babu inaugurated the facility by cutting the ribbon, followed by special puja rituals.

Addressing officials, the commissioner said the city security wing, bomb squad and dog squad play a vital role in maintaining urban security. He said the modern infrastructure would improve operational efficiency, strengthen preparedness and support better performance by personnel.

Traffic DCP Shireen Begum, crime DCP Tirumaleswara Reddy, East Zone DCP Krishna Kanth Patel and other officials attended.
