
Food safety officials on Wednesday sealed a food processing unit in Kaithalapur, Kukatpally after detecting violations, including the procurement and reuse of used cooking oil.
Acting on information provided by the Special Operations Team (SOT) police, officials conducted a raid at the premises and reported serious violations related to the use of cooking oil. The unit was also found to be in unhygienic condition.
During the inspection, around 1,000 kg of raw onions and 70 kg of fried onions were destroyed. Officials also seized 480 kg of cooking oil after collecting samples for analysis.
The premises have been sealed for further investigation.
3 held with alprazolam drugs, solvents worth ₹17.40 cr in Moula Ali
Around 69,600 kg of alprazolam, besides, chemicals and solvents for manufacturing ephedrine drugs worth `17.40 crore were seized by the sleuths of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Hyderabad unit. Acting on intelligence inputs, the officers of the NCB raided a laboratory at IDA, Moula Ali, and seized the contraband. Three persons were also arrested by the raiding team and they were booked under the NDPS Act 1985, sources said.
Two plastic drums containing the off-white powder, which were identified as alprazolam by the arrested and it was being manufactured illegally in the lab.
During questioning, it was known that that one of the accused had procured chemicals and solvents for making ephedrine drugs in large quantities without having any valid licence.
The seized contraband was valued at `17.40 crore in the market and the cost of raw material was estimated to be around `20 lakh, sources in the NCB confirmed.
The three persons arrested were a chemist, a raw material procurer and a receiver. Further probe is ongoing and details will be disclosed soon, an officer said.
Whereas, the preliminary investigation revealed that the seized alprazolam drug was to be sold at toddy shops in Telangana, as its demands peak during summer.
In 2026, the NCB, Hyderabad booked nine cases and seized drugs viz. alprazolam (78 kg), ganja (1,208 kg), charas (2 kg) and clobazam (26 gm) and arrested 24 persons.
To fight against drug trafficking, NCB told citizens to share information related to sale of narcotics by calling on MANAS — national narcotics helpline toll free number, 1933. “The identity of the caller will be kept confidential,” a top ranking police officer, said.
Scammer dupes techie of ₹1.35 crore
A city‑based software employee was duped of ₹1.35 crore by a man posing as a prospective groom on a matrimonial site. Cybercrime police said the accused, G Nagendra Babu, also cheated at least 14 other women in a similar manner.
The 36‑year‑old victim stated in her complaint that the accused befriended her two years ago, promised marriage and began extorting money citing financial difficulties. He allegedly collected ₹1.30 crore after enquiring about her property and job status. She mortgaged her house and gold and took bank loans, only to later discover he was already married with three children.
Police said the accused is a habitual offender who trapped several women under the pretext of marriage. Special teams have been formed to trace and arrest him.
Woman constable ends life in Warangal
A 33-year-old woman police constable ended her life at her residence in Mattewada area here on Tuesday night, “unable to bear persistent harassment by fellow constable.”
The deceased, Sadu Sangeetha, was stationed at the Bhupalpally PS. She was found hanging at her home near the Gopalaswamy Temple. Police arrived at the scene shortly after the incident was reported, and moved the body to a Mahatma Gandhi memorial government hospital for a post-mortem.
In a suicide note recovered from the room, Sangeetha explicitly named a colleague, Sridhar, as the reason for her extreme step. She stated that the harassment began while they were both posted at Ghanpur in Mulugu district. Despite her efforts to escape the situation by seeking a transfer from Ghanpur to Bhupalpally, Sridhar’s harassment continued unabated, she stated.
The victim’s family and colleagues expressed deep shock over the incident. Sangeetha’s note detailed the mental agony she faced, highlighting the lack of respite despite her moving to a different district for work.
The Mattewada police registered a case based on the suicide note and complaint from the family members. An investigation has been launched to verify the allegations against the accused constable, Sridhar.
3 dead, another 3 injured in Nalgonda district road accident
Three persons died on the spot and another three suffered injuries in a road accident along the Nalgonda-Devarakonda highway at Vaddireddygudem of Gurrampode mandal in Nalgonda district on Wednesday.
The deceased have been identified as Narsingh Dhanunjaya Goud (50) and Narsingh Madhu Babu Goud (35) from Kanagal, and Mareddy Bala Reddy (55) from Shakajipuram. The injured are Mareddu Alivelu, Male Manjula and Male Venkatamma.
According to police, the victims had been travelling in an over-speeding car. Driver Bala Reddy lost balance after the car ran into a motorcycle coming in the opposite direction and subsequently hit a roadside tree. Dhanunjaya, Madhu Babu, and Bala Reddy died on the spot.
Gurrampode police rushed to the spot and shifted the bodies of the deceased to the Government General Hospital in Nalgonda for autopsy.
Housing society prez ends life amid fund misuse row
Former president of Lakshmi Priya Colony association in Hayathnagar, Madhusudhan, 35, ended his life by suicide on Wednesday after being accused of misusing society funds amounting to ₹9 lakh.
According to Hayathnagar police, a note found at the scene stated that newly elected president Yadigiri Goud and the secretary had collected the funds and falsely implicated him to remove him from office. Police said Madhusudhan had earlier settled accounts and handed over a cheque of ₹1 lakh to Yadigiri and another member, Ganesh. The cheque was allegedly forged to withdraw ₹9 lakh.
On March 16, Yadigiri lodged a complaint against Madhu and Ganesh, leading to their arrest. Both were granted bail on April 10. Since then, Madhu was reportedly distressed, alleging harassment by Yadigiri and his followers with the support of some police officers.
On Wednesday, Madhu ended his life by suicide at his residence in Hayathnagar. His family members staged a protest, demanding action against those responsible. Police said a case of abetment to suicide has been registered.
Housewife ends life over infertility taunts
A 32‑year‑old housewife, M. Sumalatha, ended her life by suicide in Rajendranagar on Wednesday after her husband and in‑laws allegedly taunted her for not conceiving even after 13 years of marriage.
Police said Sumalatha, a native of Nizamabad, was married to M. Shiva Kumar of Nirmal district and living in NFC Colony, Bandlaguda. Frequent arguments over her inability to conceive reportedly angered her, leading to the suicide.
Rajendranagar SI Raghavendra said a case of abetment to suicide has been registered and investigation is in progress.
Traffic cops crack down on violations in Malkajgiri
Malkajgiri commissionerate traffic police on Wednesday carried out a special enforcement drive against wrong‑side driving, dangerous manoeuvres and use of unauthorised sirens in Traffic Zone‑I.
During the drive, 1,786 cases of wrong‑side driving and four cases of unauthorised siren usage were booked. A total fine of ₹22,01,800 was imposed on violators, Traffic DCP‑I K. Rahul Reddy said.
Cases were registered against motorists found violating rules across major junctions and accident‑prone stretches. Police said repeat offenders using unauthorised sirens would face stringent action under relevant legal provisions.
Rahul Reddy warned that wrong‑side driving can lead to fatal accidents and urged motorists to follow road safety rules. He added that misuse of sirens would be dealt with strictly.
Ex‑MLA Sayanna’s wife Geeta passes away
G. Geeta, wife of former BRS Cantonment MLA late G. Sayanna, died on Wednesday after a prolonged illness. She was undergoing treatment at KIMS Hospital.
Family members were deeply saddened by her death, which comes as another loss to the family. Their daughter, Lasya Nandita, who was elected MLA from the Cantonment constituency, had earlier lost her life in a car accident.
