Visakhapatnam: A round-table meeting held at the Visakhapatnam Public Library under the banner of People Against State Repression on Wednesday expressed solidarity with workers in Noida and condemned alleged police action against them.
Representatives from student unions, trade unions, rights organisations and civil society groups participated. Speakers, including members of NSP, Disha Student Union, Naujawan Bharat Sabha, All India Trade Union Congress and Human Rights Forum, criticised what they termed suppression of worker protests by the Uttar Pradesh police.
Participants said contract and casual workers across the country are protesting against exploitative conditions, especially in the context of new labour codes. They alleged that labelling activists, journalists and students as “masterminds” with links to Pakistan or Naxalism was an attempt to divert attention from workers’ issues.
The meeting demanded withdrawal of cases against activists, their immediate release and a judicial inquiry into the police action.
