Berhampore : Eggs prices hiked here after BJP led West Bengal state government assumed in the power. Incidents of throwing eggs became regular during the fall of the Mamata Banerjee led Trinamul congress government from 15 years of powe. Irate citizens of West Bengal used eggs as pelting meterials on tainted opposition leaders. Sources said that in the first week of May the price of one egg was rupees five and now in the third week of June it is rupees seven per piece.
According to the National eggs coordinaton committee (NECC) communique the price of one egg rises from rupees 7 to rupees 7.84 per piece in West Bengal. Increased prices are surprising because of the sudden increased demand for eggs despite scorching summer days when people eat less eggs. One of the whole sale eggs marketers revealed that nowadays people are not eating eggs rather they buy to pelt them as a “egg therapy” to satisfy their wrath on accused opposition Trinamul congress leaders who allegedly involved in rampant corruption.
One high level police official said on condition of anonymity that disgruntled common people chose eggs and threw them to the All India Trinamul congress general secretary and Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Bandopadhyay, also to arrested leaders like chairman to gram Panchayet chiefs. A woman from New Delhi arrived at the Kolkata CID head quarter to throw eggs to Abhishek Bandopadhyay but she failed due to strong police picket.
TMCs arrested spokesman Joy prakash Majumdar was reluctant to climb down from police van to evade ‘egg attack’ but he failed as irate mob pelted eggs him even in the court compound. Residents of Jiagunj municipality ward waited till Wednesday late night 2.30.am from Wednesday afternoon to throw eggs on the arrested chairman Prasanjit Ghosh. People did not hesitate to throw eggs at the former chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s Kalighat residence and threw eggs on TMC spokesman and MLA Kunal Ghosh.
Now question arise why people using eggs?, particularly chosing rotten eggs to satisfy their anguish as eggs throwing is only bailable punishable offence. So people here in west Bengal are using eggs as protesting meterial on tainted leaders. According to a psychotherapist if people throw rotten eggs to any senior Minister or political functionaries it gets the viral news value. Currently whole sale eggs rate per crate (225 pieces) rises from rupees 1180 to rupees 1430 in West Bengal.
