Man charged over incident that forced Perth Airport evacuation

A 57-year-old man has been charged over an incident which forced the closure of Perth Airport’s terminal 1 on Wednesday evening.

There were chaotic scenes at the airport as the check-in, pick-up and drop-off zones and short-term parking after a man allegedly made threats while entering the airport, before dumping a bag and leaving.

Passengers were evacuated from terminal, and there were lengthy queues as the airport reopened.

Australian Federal Police later arrested a man in Perth’s CBD. He is due to face Perth Magistrates Court today on charges including entering an airside area or airside security zone of a security controlled airport without permission, and making a false communication which could be inferred as a threat to a Commonwealth aerodrome.
