Warangal: A 45-year-old man died by suicide following a family dispute over ancestral property at Narrengathanda on the outskirts of Munjalakunta Thanda in Parvathagiri mandal of Warangal district on Monday.
According to police, the deceased, Banoth Jawaharlal, had two wives. He had two sons with his first wife and two daughters with his second wife. He had been staying with his second wife for the past few days.
Police said a dispute had arisen among the family members over seven acres of ancestral property. On Monday, Jawaharlal’s mother, Shalamma, confronted him over her gold earrings, which he had allegedly taken.
During the argument, Jawaharlal reportedly said that everyone was harassing him and that they would be happy if he died. He then attempted to die by suicide. His mother tried to stop him.
Meanwhile, his first wife, Lakshmi, reportedly told him that he could die wherever he stayed. Following this, Jawaharlal again attempted to die by suicide.
Police said Jawaharlal had allegedly made similar attempts in the past, and family members initially thought he was threatening them in the same manner. However, the ligature tightened and he died.
The deceased’s younger daughter-in-law reportedly recorded the argument on her mobile phone.
A case was registered based on a complaint filed by Jawaharlal’s father, and police are investigating the incident.
