A ‘do not eat’ warning has been issued

Morrisons has pulled a snack from the shelves amid fears packets could contain pieces of glass. The supermarket is recalling Morrisons Savers Cashews because the product may be contaminated.

The recall covers 125g packs with best before dates of 9 August 2026, 6 September 2026, 26 September 2026, 28 September 2026 or 9 October 2026. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all stores selling the nuts

The notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do. A Food Standards Agency spokesman said: “If you have bought the product do not consume it. Instead, return it to the nearest store for a full refund.”

If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it might be ‘withdrawn’ (taken off the shelves) or ‘recalled’ (when customers are asked to return the product). The FSA issues Product Recall Information Notices to let consumers and local authorities know about problems associated with food.

In some cases, a ‘Food Alert for Action’ is issued. This provides local authorities with details of specific action to be taken on behalf of consumers.

Morrisons is the fifth-largest supermarket chain in the United Kingdom. t holds a 9.2% share of the UK grocery market. For decades, it was famously part of the “Big Four” dominant UK supermarkets alongside Tesco, Sainsbury’s, and Asda, but it was overtaken for the fourth-place spot by the German discounter Aldi.

It runs 497 large-scale supermarkets and has aggressively expanded into the convenience sector with roughly 1,600 to 1,700 “Morrisons Daily” stores. Many of these are operated via franchises or were acquired through its takeover of the McColl’s chain. The chain generates an annual revenue of roughly £18.4 billion and is one of the UK’s largest private-sector employers, with over 110,000 colleagues working across its stores, manufacturing sites, and logistics networks.
