President Donald Trump is speaking from the White House briefing room after a shooting incident disrupted the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington on Saturday night.
The US president, First Lady Melania Trump, and other top officials were rushed out of the event at the Washington Hilton after Secret Service agents responded to a shooting near the main magnetometer screening area. The suspect was apprehended, while all guests were reported safe.
In posts on Truth Social before appearing, Trump said law enforcement had asked everyone to leave the premises “consistent with protocol,” promising that the annual dinner would be rescheduled.
