Kylian Mbappe has once again flexed his muscles on the World Cup stage to put France 1-0 up against Sweden in the Round of 32.

The Real Madrid star has been at the heart of Les Bleus’ attacks throughout the entirety of the first half, coming close to breaking the deadlock on several occassions.

His team-mate Michael Olise almost scored the goal of the tournament 10 minutes before Mbappe’s eventual opener, hitting the post with an outrageous overhead kick from the edge of the box.

Sweden went close a couple of times in the first half as well, with both Alexander Isak and Anthony Elanga just missing the target.

The latter also had an appeal for a penalty waved away after he was brought down in the box, only for the offside flag to spare France’s blushes.

Almost immediately after, Mbappe struck.

Picking the ball up from a short corner, the speedster danced his way into the box, facing up Arsenal’s Viktor Gyokeres and beating him with ease before firing in the far corner.

It moves the forward back within two of Lionel Messi’s record as the all-time top goalscorer at the World Cup, with 45 minutes still to play.
