Hyderabad:The HMWS&SB has undertaken large-scale cleaning and maintenance works at Red Hills reservoirs and Asifnagar filter beds following the complaints from consumers over yellowish drinking water supply in parts of the city.

Over the past four weeks, residents had reported that water supplied from Asifnagar filter beds to the Red Hills reservoir appeared yellow in colour. Tests conducted by the board’s quality assurance and testing (QAT) wing confirmed that the water was not contaminated and that the colour remained within permissible limits.

Acting on board managing director Ashok Reddy’s directions, the transmission wing carried out a 24-hour shutdown and cleaned the balancing tank and conduit at the Asifnagar filter beds. Simultaneously, four ground-level service reservoirs (GLSRs) with a combined capacity of 31.50 million litres at Red Hills were cleaned.

Ashok Reddy inspected the ongoing purification and maintenance works at the Osmansagar conduit and Asifnagar filter beds on Saturday. He directed officials to complete the works within the scheduled timeframe and ensure timely restoration of water supply.
