KOLKATA, Sept. 20: Former Jadavpur Trinamul Congress MLA Debabrata Majumdar’s residence and party office and many CPI(M) party offices came under attack by a gang of hooligans late on Saturday night. Mr Majumdar is a loyalist of former chief minister Mamata Banerjee.
Ms Banerjee’s followers later posted a video of the attack on social media and blamed the BJP for carrying out the vandalism at Mr Majumdar’s house in Bijoygarh under ward no 96 of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation.
They also alleged that former councillor Basundhara Goswami’s party office in the area was also ransacked by the miscreants. At the same time, a number of CPI(M) offices and Shahid Bedi of deceased party workers were demolished in the locality.
On Sunday morning, Mr Majumdar took out a protest rally with his aides in the area. He claimed that his elder brother was assaulted while the cops came an hour after getting his call during the attack.
State BJP president Samik Bhattacharya however denied his party’s role. He said, “Mr Majumdar earlier with us. He later switched to TMC. It was his decision. But our party does not believe in attacking others’ party offices.”
