West Ham chasing equaliser as Brentford take huge step towards Europe

Brentford are ahead at half-time in their clash with West Ham at the G-Tech Community Stadium.

The Bees could have four or five goals to their name, but have been unable to punish a sloppy Hammers backline in the West London sun.

Just 15 minutes into the game, the hosts had the lead. A tussle between Konstantinos Mavropanos and Michael Kayode saw the West Ham man turn the ball into his own net in an attempt to clear the danger.

The Greek defender almost had immediate redemption, heading home eight minutes later, only for his effort to be ruled out for offside.

West Ham hit the post a further two times in the first half, with Brentford also creating plenty of chances.

Mikel Damsgaard flushed an effort wide of an empty net after Mads Hermansen came out but failed to clear the ball, while Mathias Jensen also went close.

The good news for the visitors is that they are still in the game, and can pull a goal or two back to grab what would be a crucial one or three points in the Premier League relegation fight.

With Brighton currently losing to Newcastle at the same time, Brentford will cement themselves in the top six with a win.
