Michigan State heads back on the road Saturday, Oct. 3, looking to snap a two-game losing streak when the Spartans face Wisconsin at Camp Randall Stadium.

Michigan State vs. Wisconsin predictions
▶ Angelique S. Chengelis: Michigan State lost to Nebraska in the Big Ten opener, but the bigger loss was running back Cam Edwards, out for the season now with a torn knee ligament. The Spartans have had a number of injury issues in head coach Pat Fitzgerald’s first season, but his passion and determination to “attack” this program rebuild, as he described this week, are admirable. MSU is a work in progress and with that comes the need to clean up things like turnover and penalties. The only way to fix the injury issues, of course, is with time. And patience. The Badgers and Luke Fickell are coming off a much-needed program win at Penn State. Does this mean Fickell has things turned around at Wisconsin? Probably not, but that was definitely a springboard. Pick: Wisconsin, 24-13

▶ Connor Earegood: The problem with changing coaches twice in three years is that the corresponding churn of transfer portal exits and entries thins out long-term depth considerably. Michigan State coach Pat Fitzgerald faces that reality as injuries hamper a significant number of his Week 1 starters, including a season-ending blow to running back Cam Edwards. The Spartans have played on the road, so don’t expect too many jitters at Camp Randall. But the fact of the matter is that if players like Jordan Hall or Brady Pretzlaff, Tre Bell or Tyran Chappell can’t go, then MSU is fighting an unfair battle when it comes to defensive talent. Luke Fickell cooled his hot seat a bit by knocking off Penn State last week. This game got a whole lot harder to win than it looked back in August. Pick: Wisconsin, 31-17
▶ John Niyo: We won’t know until Saturday just how long the injury list really is for Michigan State. But we already know the Spartans are without their best player in running back Cam Edwards, who is out for the season. And we knew coming into this season that depth was going to be an issue for Pat Fitzgerald’s roster. That’s a problem for a problem that won’t get a bye until Halloween and won’t catch a break this weekend facing a Wisconsin team fresh off a huge win over Penn State. Mike Tressel’s defense allowed just 233 yards and also scored on a pick-6 in that one, and it goes without saying that Michigan State has to limit the sacks and turnovers if it wants to have any chance as a double-digit underdog in Madison. Pick: Wisconsin, 28-17
▶ Bob Wojnowski: The Badgers are coming off their most-uplifting win, beating Penn State on the road, while the Spartans experienced their most-disheartening loss, 31-13 at home against Nebraska. At 3-1, Luke Fickell might finally be getting a foothold at Wisconsin, while Pat Fitzgerald has to keep his 2-2 Spartans from sliding in the opposite direction, and it won’t be easy. The injuries have piled up, none more damaging than the season-ender suffered by running back Cam Edwards. Neither team is explosive offensively, with Wisconsin ranked 104th in rushing and MSU 114th. Quarterback Alessio Milivojevic has to avoid the big turnover, and the same goes for Wisconsin’s Colton Joseph. The Badgers should be revived after last week, and their defense will stuff the short-handed Spartans. Pick: Wisconsin, 24-10
